Joan T. Smith FRAMINGHAM Miss Joan T. Smith, 84, of Framingham, formerly of Milford, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at St. Patricks Manor in Framingham after a period of declining health. Miss Smith was born in Milford, the daughter of the late James F. and the late Josephine (Lyons) Smith. She was a graduate of the former St. Marys High School and Worcester State College. She later received her masters degree in education from Boston College. Miss Smith was employed as a teacher in the Framingham school system for 30 years and was a former member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the Framingham Teachers Association. She had been a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association. Miss Smith had been a resident of Framingham for the past year and prior to that had been a longtime resident of Milford. She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Milford. Miss Smith was an avid supporter of her community and of her faith with St. Marys Church. Miss Smith is survived by three nephews, James F. Smith Jr. of Newton, Paul J. Smith of Norfolk, and David C. Smith of Watertown; also several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was the sister of the late Mary Smith, Charles Smith, James Smith, Gerald Smith and Robert Smith. Her funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 14, at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress St., Milford, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter St., Milford. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery in Milford. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation period on Thursday, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, prior to her funeral Mass.
