Avis de décès de Jo-Jeanne Barton


BARTON--Jo Jeanne Millon, age 82, of New York City died peacefully on September 2, 2010. The daughter of the late Jean-Pierre Millon and Josephine Irish Millon. She is survived by her husband of 58 years Thomas H. Barton and by her daughters Brooke Millon Barton, MD of Los Angeles, California and Avril Barton Moore of Princeton, New Jersey and her grandchildren Thomas Barton Moore, Diana Millon Moore and Juliet Avril Moore. She was graduated from the Spence School and 1949 from Vassar College. She made debut at the Junior League Debutante Ball and at The New York Infirmary Christmas Cotillion. Her great-grandfather Charles Lassalle, founded the French language newspaper in New York. Le Courier des Etats-Unis, and organized the subscription for the base of the Statue of Liberty. Her mother was descended from John Irish who was left several shillings in the will of his neighbor Miles Standish in the Plymouth Colony. She spent a lifetime in community service in the leadership of volunteers. She served as President of the Junior League of the City of New York and later as Vice President and Director of the Association of Junior Leagues of America. She was President of the Drama League, the United Nations Hospitality Committee, the City Gardens Club and Regent of the Mary Washington Colonial Chapter of the DAR. She served the Spence School as President of the Alumnae Board and a member of the Board of Trustees. Member of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society and the Colony Club. She loved the company and camaraderie of her friends and fellow volunteers. Her great affection for people, her willingness to do the hard work in organizations, her parliamentary and organizational skills will be long remembered. She loved laughter, all things French, The New York Times Sunday crossword puzzles, Cole Porter and Sherlock Holmes. A memorial Mass will be held in the Fall at the Church of St. Thomas More where she was married in 1952.
