PATTERSON, JESSIE MAE GRANGER, age 86, of Homewood, passed away February 24, 2011 after a prolonged illness. Survivors include her daughter, Pattye Augusta, her son, Nicholas Patterson, two grandchildren, Mycheal Thompson, and Stephen Thompson, and a host of loved ones including nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mrs. Patterson died in her sleep at her home in the Rosedale section of Homewood, where she had been under the care of Wiregrass Hospice. She was a native of Mississippi, who moved with her parents to Homewood as a child. In her career and in her personal life, Mrs. Patterson devoted herself to the care of others. Retired as a unit clerk with Cooper Green Hospital, Mrs. Patterson also formerly worked in nursing, particularly as a visiting nurse, and as a teacher in rural Georgia at a time when black teachers were scarce. Visitation will be Friday at Davenport and Harris Funeral Home, with family hour from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral will be Saturday, 1 p.m. at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Rosedale, followed by burial at Shadow Lawn Cemetery, Davenport and Harris directing.
