Jerry W. DeWitt, 54, of Nanuet, New York, passed away January 25, 2010. He was born August 30, 1955, in Loris, South Carolina, the son of late Eloise Johnson and J.D. DeWitt. He was the youngest of three siblings. Mr. DeWitt was a graduate of Loris High School in Loris, SC. He became a resident of Rockland County in 1971 and later married Barbara DeWitt, who survives, on January 16, 1982. Mr. DeWitt was the Vice President of Law Enforcement with New York State Correctional Officers Police Benevolent Association and was an employee of New York State for 39 years. He volunteered his time serving as President of the Forest Brook Home Owners Association. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Byron and Natasha DeWitt of Charlotte, NC, daughter and son-in-law Andrea and Raymond Gay of Philadelphia, PA, step-son and daughterin-law Michael and Tanya Powell of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Andre and Brandon DeWitt and Jazmin Powell of Charlotte, NC; brother William Johnson of Loris, SC. and step-brothers J.D. Jr. and Richard DeWitt of Pleasantville, NJ; and step-sister Cora Wilkins of Pleasantville, N.J. Mr. DeWitt was preceded in death by his brother James Johnson. The viewing will take place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon with the funeral services immediately following on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at First Baptist Church, 6 Hoyt Street, Spring Valley, New York 10977.
