JEAN HILLS CLARK MORRISVILLE - Jean Hills Clark, 92, died peacefully on Saturday, April 30, 2011, in The Manor nursing home with her family at her side. Jean was born March 21, 1919, in Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y. to Elizabeth E. "Nellie" and Arthur C. Hills. She grew up in Greensboro Bend, Hyde Park, and North Wolcott. She married Francis Clark in 1943. While raising their family, Jean served on the Morrisville Health Committee, which raised money to provide daily vitamins to elementary school children, and devoted many hours for many years to the Copley Hospital Auxiliary, who at that time mended all of the sheets and other linen used by the hospital. She also pursued her interests in gardening and in horseback riding, becoming a founding member of the Lamoille Riding and Driving Club, and helping organize many wonderful trail rides and gymkhanas. She was a Cub Scout den mother and active in 4-H and Home Dem, and a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Morrisville Congregational Church. In the 1960s, she put her excellent cooking skills to work at several lodges in Stowe and then went to work for Peck's Flower Shop in Morrisville. There, she discovered the talents and interests that shaped the rest of her life. In 1969, after attending Rittners School of Floral Design in Boston, Mass., she bought Peck's Flower Shop, which she then ran for over 40 years. She is survived by her children, Francine and husband, Richard Page, of Essex, Carolyn Brown and friend, Mike Molleur, of Walden, and Robert Clark and friend, Mary Misseldine, of Ukiah, Calif.; by her nephew, Henry Stevens and wife, Pat, of Punta Gorda, Fla.; by her niece by marriage, Carrie Lane Stevens, and by her niece, Barbara White and husband, Steve, of Syracuse, N.Y.; by her grandson, Kevin Clark Brown and wife, Catina; and by granddaughters, Elizabeth Jeanne Page Calvert and her husband, Dmitri, of Valdez, N.M. and Bridget Kathleen Page and husband, Steven Ashley, of Salem, Mass.; and by four great-grandchildren, Lauren Ashley Brown, Alec Jonathan Brown, Cedar Addison Calvert and Ned Clark Calvert. She is survived as well by a dear friend, Linda Clark of Morrisville. Arrangements are being made by White-Feiss Funeral Home of Morrisville, and memorial services will occur this summer at the convenience of the family. Contributions in Jean's memory may be made to The Manor Activities Fund, 577 Washington Highway, Morrisville, VT 05661.
