JANE LOUISE HORTON - COLCHESTER - Jane Louise Horton, "Jennie", passed away, surrounded by her family, on Monday, July 8, 2013, in Green Mountain Nursing Home. She was 86 years old. Jane was born in Winooski on Dec. 15, 1926, the daughter of the late Edward E. and Irene (Miville) Horton. She was raised in Winooski and graduated from Winooski High School, class of 1944. She started Winooski Recreation Inc. while in high school. During the war, Jane was a civil defense telephone operator. Later she was employed as a payroll clerk at E.B and A.C. Whiting Company. She also worked for Tulatex and General Electric in Burlington and the Porter Screen Company in Winooski. She was also a free-lance writer for the Burlington Free Press. Jane was an accomplished vocal musician. She won the state competition for vocalists held in St. Albans in 1941. She and her singing partner, Shirley Smile, also performed publicly, and had a weekly radio show that ran locally for several years in the forties on WCAX. Jane and former husband, Bob Blondin, raised four sons. She is survived by three sons, Bob Blondin Jr. and his wife, Claudette, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, John Blondin and his wife, Betty, of Colchester, and Dan Blondin of South Burlington. She also leaves five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Jane is also survived by four siblings, sisters, Eleanor, Betty and Patty; and brother, Paul. She was predeceased by her son, Tom Blondin in 2001; and by her brother, Edward. Jane enjoyed cooking, reading and time with her family. She had a remarkable memory, with an uncanny ability to recall facts, events and dates. She leaves her family admiring her amazing strength, courage and endurance. They also admired her sense of humor! Visiting hours will be Friday, July 12, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at ElmwoodMeunier Funeral Home, 97 Elmwood Ave., in Burlington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Steven's church in Winooski. Interment will follow at St. Francis Xavier cemetery.
