MCKENZIE, JAMES SANDERS Age 87 of Mt. Olive, passed away on Thursday January 5, 2012. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a firefighter in the Birmingham Fire Department for 37 years working out of the North Birmingham and Inglenook stations where he served as both a driver and a cook. He loved to cook, garden, read, travel, hunt wild game and hike in the mountains of northern Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eula Schultz McKenzie and John Edward McKenzie; brothers, Edward, Coke, Auby, and Claude McKenzie; and by sisters, Eva Turner, Lucille Shepardson, and Elizabeth Jett. He is survived by several nieces and nephews who reside in Birmingham, Bill McKenzie, Kathleen Tokunow, Jane McKenzie, Aaron McKenzie, Phyllis Lamoureux, and Mae Sherperson; Margaret Howell of West Lafayette, Indiana; Pam Wulf of Buena Park, California; Cynthia Hallman of Huntsville, Alabama, and Bonnie Williamson of Ashland, Alabama. He was very generous and did many selfless acts for his family. Graveside services will be held on Monday January 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Moncrief Cemetery in Gardendale. Visitation will be held Mon., January 9, 2012 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Walker Chapel Funeral Home in Fultondale. Arrangements are by Walker Chapel Funeral Home, 1200 Ellard Rd.
