ObituaryJames Richard Rogers, 80, of Summit Township, Erie PA, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 22, 2010, surrounded by his loving wife and children at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA. He was born May 9, 1930, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Jim graduated from Shaler High School in 1948, Penn State University in 1953, and obtained his Masters Degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a teacher and retired as an elementary principal from the North Hills School District after 31 years of service. In addition, he proudly served in the Air Force, Air Force Reserves, and the Pennsylvania Air National Guard where he rose to the rank of Colonel and served as a Squadron Commander in the 171st Air Refueling Wing. He also served his community of West Deer Township as an auxiliary police officer. In 1983, he was the second recipient of the Iron Will Award and was nominated for the Carnegie Medal for his life-saving efforts of an accident victim. Jim was a member of Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church in North Fort Myers and previously belonged to The First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown.He was preceded in death by his parents Ruhl Cephas and Edna B. Rogers and his brother David B. Rogers. He is survived by his wife June Fredley Rogers; children: Donna J. Vokish (Paul) of Valencia, PA, Laurie A. Fausnaugh (Kris) of Columbus, OH, and James Robert Rogers (Heather) of Erie, PA; grandchildren Lauren, Britney, Kelsey, A.J., Caitlin, Megan and Heather; and twin sister Barbara Patton of Columbia, MO., as well as many nieces and nephews.Family and friends may call at the Schellhaas Funeral Home, Ltd., on Wednesday from 2-5 and 7-9 P.M., 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown, PA, 724-443-1505, and are invited to attend the Funeral Service at 11 A.M. on Thursday. Burial will follow at Pleasant Unity Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Ruby C.
