KAVANAUGH, JAMES BRUNSWICK - James J. Kavanaugh, 79, passed away at home on May 10, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Albany, N.Y., he was the son of the late Charles B. and Winifred (Keenan) Kavanaugh. He was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy and Siena College. Upon his graduation, he was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served from 1953 through 1955. Jim spent his career in branch management with State Bank of Albany (now Bank of America). He retired in 1990 and since then, enjoyed travel and leisure with his wife, playing golf, spending time with his grandsons, and continuing his civic work, including the Honor Guard of the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. For many years, Jim was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory church, where he served as a lector and a former member of the finance and planning committees. He was active with the Kiwanis Club for decades both in Troy and Plattsburgh. He also was a former member of the board of the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, Eddy Heritage House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and the United Way. Jim was a dedicated member of the Friends of St. Patrick of Troy. No one loved laughter more than Jim. He'll be remembered for his warmth, wit and optimism. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years Anna E. (Schuttenhelm) Lance Kavanaugh and his daughters Regina (Michael) Plowinske and Katharine (Matthew) Doran of Brunswick, Margaret (H.B.) Scarey of Windham and Patricia Kavanaugh of Chicago. Also surviving are his grandsons, James Doran and John Doran, and many nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his first wife, the late Katharine (McEvoy) Kavanaugh, an infant son, James, and his brothers, Charles J. Kavanaugh and John F. Kavanaugh. The Kavanaugh family thanks the staff of Community Hospice of Rensselaer for all their care and compassion during his illness. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday morning at 9:15 am at Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Doran Funeral Home, 9 South Lake Avenue, Troy. Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
