James Byron Huff, 91, of Sarasota, formerly of Pelham Manor, NY passed away October 14, 2010. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Columbarium at the Huguenot Memorial Church, Pelham Manor, NY. Survivors include his two daughters, Susan Huff Schlather of Gainesville, VA and Martha Huff Farris of Mamaroneck, NY, and his son, John Byron Huff of Eatonton, GA. He has two grandsons, Thomas and Christopher Farris of Mamaroneck, NY. His wife of 49 years, Virginia, preceded him in death in 1994. He was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on June 5, 1919, the son of Charles Byron and Martha Huff. Raised in Martinsville, Indiana, he attended high school there, graduating in 1937. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University in 1940 and his Masters degree from Harvard Graduate School of Business in 1942. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity at Indiana University. He met and married his wife, Virginia, in Philadelphia, PA, while in the Navy in 1945. In 1964, the family moved to Pelham Manor, NY and he became Business Manager of the State of New York Atomic & Space Development Authority. In 1970, he became the Comptroller and the Assistant Executive Director of the New York State Metropolitan Transportation Authority, from which he retired in January 1985. He and his wife retired to Sarasota in 1985. He was currently serving as a driver for Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the Indiana University Alumni Association for over 60 years. He was an active member of the Sons of the American Revolution, having served on its Board of Governors since 2001.
