POWELL, JAMES ALVIN (MR. AL, POP) - age 83, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed peacefully at home with the comfort of his family. He is preceded in death by his mother, Hazel P. Powell, and father, Leroy Bowerman; wife, Peggy J. Powell; grandparents, Luke and Elsie Hill; uncle and aunt, E.O. and Bobby Hill, Williard (Harriett) Hill; sister, Joyce Maxwell; sons, Paul (Peewee) Powell, Alvin J. Powell, and Stewart L. DeVault; son-in-law, Charles F. Smith; and close friend WM "Bill" Holloway. He leaves to carry his legacy: lifelong companion, Mrs. Harriett V. DeVault; caregiver and daughters, Sherrye Alvinia Smith, Crystal (Rick) Boyd and Elder Tonja P. Warren; sons, Kevin (Joe Rock) DeVault, Anthony (Kay) Robinson and Curtis E. Stacy; grandson, Ricky E. Boyd III; devoted uncle and aunt, Gilford (Louella) Hill; devoted nephews, Claude Powell Sr., Joseph Neal and Claude Powell Jr.; special friends, Raymond Burton Sr., James Hawkins, Barbara M. and Avice Reid, Marcus Jamison, Melvin McCaleb. Special thank you to Fressinus Dialysis Clinic and Avalon Hospice, the Turman Holloway and Archer families. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 12:00 noon at Bush Grove Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee, with Rev. Phillip Turman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at New Gray Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee.
