Ivy Virginia Dixon DuPont Moore, known to many as "Miss Ivy," passed away Jan. 4, 2015, in St. Augustine, Fla., at the age of 93. She was born to Martin Dixon and Florence Rogero Dixon in Washington, D.C., on July 13, 1921.She spent her childhood in Daytona, Fla., where she met William Daniel DuPont, Jr. while working at Kress's Department Store as a teenager. She and Bill eloped and married on Oct. 13, 1938, in Jacksonville, Fla. They had six children: William Daniel DuPont, III; James Fulton DuPont; Michael David DuPont; Ralph Merlin DuPont; Fredrick Roger DuPont; and Judith Ann DuPont.During World War II she cared for her mother and kept the home fires burning while her husband "Bill" and her two brothers, Merlin and Fulton fought in that war. During Vietnam, she continued to care for her mother and again kept the home fires burning while three of her sons, James, Ralph and Fredrick fought in that war. At the end of her life she took great pride in displaying the Three Blue Star Banner representing her contributions in those wars.After she lost Bill to a terrible accident at the St. Augustine Airport, she married William E. Moore, Sr. on Aug. 13, 1971 and increased her children to include: Carroll Moore Brown (Larry); William E. Moore, Jr. (Lola); Charles Moore (Ann), and Glen Moore (Pam).Miss Ivy never met a stranger and treated everyone like family. To the end she had a sense of humor and the ability to deliver a punch line just at the right time. She was also a very talented lady. In the early seventies she owned "Ivy's Fabric Shop" on San Marco Avenue and was so skilled at fishing that she even taught the subject at the First Coast Technical Center for a while in the 80's. She loved to fish and play bridge with her friends and crocheted hundreds of Afghans for her loved ones.She is survived by five of her children: William DuPont, III; James DuPont (Estela); Ralph DuPont (Evelyn); Fredrick DuPont (Diane); and Judith DuPont. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, over 50 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren plus many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Craig Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Fr. Tom Willis, officiating. Burial will be in Pellicer Creek Cemetery.The family wishes to thank "her boys" at the St. Augustine Boating Club that so caringly looked out for her since the passing of William Moore on Oct. 20, 2000; the entire staffs of the Allegro Senior Living Facility, Flagler Hospital, and Northeast Florida Community Hospice.
