Ivan Charles McGowan, 82, of Neptune, N.J., passed away on Saturday, Dec 11, 2010. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Second Baptist Church, Asbury Park, N.J. The viewing will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m. James H. Hunt Funeral Home, Asbury Park, is in charge of arrangements. Ivan was born and raised in Smith's Parish, Bermuda, and moved to Harlem, N.Y., in 1948, to pursue educational and career opportunities. After receiving his high school diploma from Eron Preparatory School and his B.S. in electrical engineering from Howard University, Ivan and his wife, Eunice (Caisey) McGowan, moved to Louisiana, where he taught at Southern University. In 1962, the McGowans moved to New Jersey, where Ivan began his 48-year career at Fort Monmouth as an electrical engineer. A lifelong learner, he earned his MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University, a paralegal certificate from Long Island University, and numerous professional designations. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Eunice; brother, Edwin and his wife, Roseclair, of Bermuda; son, Raymond; son, Preston and his wife, Emily, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members, both near and far.
