Carter, Irvin LeeIrvin Lee (Irv) CarterJune 5, 1925-April 1, 2012Irv grew up in Birmingham, AL. As a young man, he served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Afterwards, he and his brothers moved to Rochester, N.Y. In the mid 1950's, Irv joined the Rochester Police Motorcycle Division. Later , he was promoted to Plains Clothes Detective. Ultimately he attained the rank of Grade C and was highly respected by his peers. He retired after 20 years of service.He then pursued other interest and became a recruiter for the Rochester School District continuing education program; head of security at Xerox Corporation later heading its training and employment program for high school students. Irv was a featured model in Eastman Kodak ads and in Ebony Magazine in 1963.He was a salesman for Pojansky Furs on East Avenue. An ardent golfer , Irv loved the challenge it presented.Irv and his family were stellar Rochester citizens. His only child, loving daughter Diana Carter Lanier, who predeceased him, was a social worker for Monroe County; only grandchild Caren Lanier Hammett, is an architect now residing in Atlanta, GA. Brother Oscar was a service manager for Simmons Motor Company and owned Oscar's Liquor Store. Brother Dennis, a Kodak retiree owned multiple residential properties. Sisters Richardine and Virginia resided in Birmingham, AL.Irv shared over thirty wonderful years of marriage with his loving wife, Linda who resides in Rochester.He leaves behind to cherish his memory his family and a multitude of friends who truly admired him and treasured his friendship.
