Irene W. Smith, 78, Seymour, passed away at 12:10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Schneck Medical Center.Irene retired from the phone company as an operator and had also worked in the office. She had been a member of Seymour First Nazarene, where she was active in the Fellowship Sunday School class, Prime Timers group and served the church as a counter. Irene loved to play cards and especially loved to go shopping.Born on Dec. 30, 1933, in California, she was the ­daughter of Frank and Laurene ­(Adams) Brower. In 1954 at Reno, Nev., she ­married Harley Hill Jr., who preceded her in death in 1987. On Sept. 27, 2003, she married Randolph "Smitty" Smith in Seymour.Survivors include her husband, Smitty; four daughters, Rhonda (Jerry) Sutherland, Seymour, Patty (Mike) Cockerham, Seymour, Sherry (Clarence) Dowling, Paris Crossing, and Cindy (James) Campbell, Memphis; two sons, Thomas (Peggy) Hill, Scottsburg and Randolph (Mary) Smith III, Seymour; 10 grandchildren, Chadd (Amy) Sutherland, Matt (Tara) Sutherland, Thomas (Angela) Hill Jr., Kelsey Hill, R.J. (Kelly) Smith, Adam Smith, B.J. (Amy) Cockerham, Chad (Renae) Cockerham, Dustin (Mary) Dowling and Shawn Israel; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ralph (Jeanne) Brower, John (Wanda) Brower and Fred Brower; and one sister, Pat Murphy.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harley; and a brother, Frank Brower.Pastor Garrett Mills will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday at Seymour First Nazarene, 311 Myers St., Seymour.
