FISHER, Irene Melissa Heasley 90, passed away peacefully at the Robert Packer Hospital on Thursday, April 22, 2010, following a brief illness. She will be warmly remembered for her zest for life, her compassion toward her fellow men, and a dedicated active membership in several community, fraternal and civil organizations. Irene was born in Waverly, NY on August 1, 1919, the daughter of Thomas and Leda Denslow Heasley. She graduated from Flint, Michigan. A former employee in the offices of the late Drs. Hirvonen, Bulkley, and Kaine, and Agway. She retired as Office Manager of Surgical Associates in Ithaca after 25 years of service, and retired again as Office Manager for Dr. Yasmeen Moody after 10 years of service. She was an active member and officer in the American Association of Medical Assistants, a Charter member of the Tompkins County Ithaca Chapter, and served as president of the New York State AAMA. She was a life member of the Spencer Chapter of Eastern Stars, a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Spencer Historical Society, Red Hats Society, and Honorary member of the Spencer Alumni Association. She served several years as Chair of the local Cancer, Heart, and Red Cross Drives. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Grace and Peter Koch of North Syracuse, and Barbara and David Lanning of Spencer; five grandchildren: Aaron Koch of North Syracuse, Adrian (and Carolyn) Koch of North Syracuse, Jason Koch of Corning, David (and Linda) Lanning and Tracey Post of Spencer; eight great-grandchildren: Ashley, Sean, Ryan and Caelan Irene Lanning of Spencer, Alex Post of Van Etten, Noah, Jolie, and Ian Koch of North Syracuse; a brother, George Heasley of Arizona; sister, Marcia Morley of Peoria, IL; sisters-in-law, Katherine Fisher Mekos of Elmira, Aenid Horton Fisher of Florida, and Mary Hull Rathbone of Carmel, NY; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition, her "adopted" children, Ray and Millie Thornton and their families, Lorraine Pearsall and Myra Boughton. Grace and Barbara shared her as many of her friends looked upon her as mother and grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband, Ferris Fisher, in 2000 after 62 years of marriage; and two sisters, Barbara Tedrow and Gladys Miller. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in her memory to Christ the King Church (Presbyterian), 75 North Main Street, Spencer, NY 14883, or the charity or organization of one's choice. At her request, there will be no calling hours. A private family Committal Service will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Evergreen Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. at the Spencer Presbyterian Church with Pastor Bryan Bond and Pastor Priscilla Andrews assisting.
