Irene "Renie" Elizabeth Hurley of Susquahanna, Pa. Irene Elizabeth Hurley, 91, of Susquehanna, Pa., passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 31, 2007, at the Barnes Kasson Hospital SNF in Susquehanna, Pa. She was born on February 12, 1916 in Eynon, Pa., the daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes Witko. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Hurley; six brothers, Andrew Burns, Joseph Witko, Michael Witko, John Burns, Thomas Burns, Robert Burns; one sister, Marjorie Warholic; three nieces, Carolle Bussa, Marge Meloni, Donna Salansky; two beloved nephews, Raymond Whitehead, James Burns Jr. Irene is survived by one brother, James Burns; three sisters, Elizabeth Witko, Rose Plutino, Agnes Whitehead; many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Irene moved to Susquehanna as a young woman. She worked as a waitress at the Erie Lackawanna Station in Susquehanna, and at other establishments in town. She retired from Barnes Kasson Hospital after many years of service in the food preparation department. She was a member of St. John's Church in Susquehanna where she served as assistant to many of the priests, cleaning the rectory and preparing meals for them. She was loved by her family as a strong woman who always put her needs aside for those of others, particularly those who she loved most. She loved to bake and cook and enjoyed sharing her food with her family and friends. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 4th, at 9:30 a.m. at the Hennessey's Funeral Home, 208 Jackson Ave., Susquehanna, and 10 a.m. at the St. John's Church in Susquehanna, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Robert Simon. Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery in Susquehanna. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Church in Susquehanna.
