Falkville<!-- Hugh Dwayne Smith -->Funeral for Hugh Dwayne Smith, 73, of Falkville will be Friday, December 18, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Gandy&#8217;s Cove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ira Laney and the Rev. Jeri Hunt officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Hartselle City Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.Mr. Smith, who died Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at Decatur General Hospital, was born April 12, 1936, in Morgan County to Arthur J. Smith Sr. and Jamie Peck Smith. He was a member of Gandy&#8217;s Cove United Methodist Church where he had served on various committees as well as in other areas of church service until his declining health. He was involved in volunteer fire department development for many years in his local department, Ebenezer VFD, and in the county and state associations. He retired as an instrument repair technician from Monsanto after 38 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Virginia Smith Carroll; and one brother, Hal Peck Smith. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Shirley Kirk Smith; two sons, Kenneth Smith (Vickie) of Somerville and Mike Smith of Fairbanks, Alaska; one daughter, Donna Smith of Hartselle; two brothers, Arthur &#8220;Buddy&#8221; Smith (Jean) and Charles Smith (Marynell), both of Hartselle; seven grandchildren, Jessica Miller of Decatur, Kira Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jeff Smith, Ethan Howell and Drew Smith (Natalie), all of Hartselle, Jason Smith of Madison and Jared Smith of Beebe, Ark.; and four great-grandchildren, Neelie and Olivia Miller, Savannah Smith and Lydia Smith. Pallbearers will be Tim Womack, Gerry Holmes, Don Turney, Tim Dunlap, Keith Harper and Chris Bryant.
