MANN, Howard RussellSeptember 20, 1952 - July 22, 2012It is with heavy hearts that the family of Howard Russell Mann, beloved husband of Carol of Calgary, announces his passing on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at the age of 59 years. Howard endured his illness with great spirit and fight for the past ten years. Through his courage, he was able to maintain a wonderful family life with lots of badminton and golf, and continued working at a job he loved right up until the last few months. Howard was born in Regina. It was there that he pursued his CMA designation with much success, winning medals for high marks and becoming valedictorian at his graduation. A transfer took him and Carol to Guelph, ON for two and a half years. Another transfer brought him to Calgary, where he truly felt at home. Howard worked for the Co-operators and Sovereign General Insurance Company for thirty-four years where he was well-respected for his abilities and intellect. Howard loved having friends over and was famous for his murder mystery parties. He was very involved with his family, being a Scout leader for several years and the head cheerleader for Stuart and Logan in their badminton pursuits. He was so proud of his boys and doted on them and his wife. He will be sorely missed by his family, his friends, and his co-workers. Besides his loving wife Carol, Howard is survived by two sons Logan and Stuart; and three sisters, Marybeth, Lauren and Margo. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Allison, and by his parents Elizabeth and Warren Mann. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the charity of the donor's choice. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, the Palliative Home Care team, and the Southwood Hospice nurses, doctors and personal care assistants. A special thanks to those wonderful friends who visited Howard at home and at the hospice. These people truly brought joy to Howard during his last few months. In living memory of Howard Mann, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
