<!-- FH = Garrett Funerals and Cremations -->Hettie Anne Franklin CaseyWaynesville - Hettie Anne Franklin Casey, 74, died Friday, December 30, 2011, at her home in Waynesville, NC, in the loving care of family and friends. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth McCracken Franklin, and wife of the late William (Bill) Casey.A 1955 graduate of Waynesville Township High School, she entered nurses training at Memorial Mission Hospital School of Nursing in June of 1955. She was inducted into the Luceo Caminous Honor Society as a junior and served as president of the Society in her senior year.Hettie met Bill Casey from Binghamton, NY, on a blind date where he teased her for ordering hamburger steak instead of real steak. His sense of humor was effective as she married him in June of 1959 and remained his wife until his death in 1994. They lived in Columbus, OH before moving to Denver, CO where they came to love the Rocky Mountains and started their family. They returned to Western North Carolina and lived in Asheville until 1978. Her dedication, passion for nursing and compassion for all touched hundreds of people. She was an active member of the Memorial Mission Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Scholarship Committee. Her involvement with the Mission Belles was an important and very enjoyable part of her life. A member of Francis Cove United Methodist Church most of her life, she served as treasure of the Women's Society of Christian Service for many years, knowing that only in death would she be out of that position! (Have a good laugh, ladies!) During the years she lived in Asheville, she attended Abernathy United Methodist Church and was actively involved in the youth group. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Walter, Billy and Buster Franklin, sisters Edna Franklin Pressley and Marjorie Franklin Walker, and her dear twin Katie Franklin Caldwell. She is survived by her son Alan Casey and his wife Helen of Lyndon, VT, two daughters, Beth Casey of Yellowstone National Park, and Amy Lou Hubbard of Bozeman, MT, grand-daughter Abianne Casey of Yellowstone, grandson Casey Hubbard of Prescott Valley, AZ, sister Janie Januszewski and brother Tom Franklin both of Waynesville.
