JACKSONVILLE — Memorial services with full military honors for Hershel Ray Anderson, 87, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville with the Revs. John Simmons and Ted Anderson officiating, K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directing services. The family will receive friends in the church parlor for one hour prior to services. Mr. Anderson died Sunday, December 28, 2008, at Jacksonville Medical Center. He is survived by five daughters, Suzette Dohrmann, of California, Deborah Corliss, of Oregon, Denise Cantrell, of Maryland, Deidre Dilg, of Tennessee, Daw Ortiz, of California, Beth Holt, of West Virginia; one son, Randy Anderson, of California; one sister, Lanota Sulivant; his companion, Margaret Potts and her family of Jacksonville; 17 grandchildren; four great- grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Friendship Sunday School Class and the Wednesday and Friday Bridge Group of 1st United Methodist Church. Mr. Anderson served his country in the U.S. Navy for 20 years and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the American Legion Post 57. He was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific medal, the European African Middle Eastern medal, the World War II victory medal, The China Service and Philippine Liberation medal and the Korean Service medal. He was an active volunteer in the community with the recycling program at First Presbyterian Church, Meals on Wheels and as a crossing guard at Kitty Stone Elementary.
