It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our much loved Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma Hellen Lenora Carter at her home on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at the age of 90, after a long and full life. Hellen was pre-deceased by her husband, Sandy, in 1983. She was also pre-deceased by all four of her siblings; Gwen Campbell, Ruth Adamson, Wilf Risvold and Irving Risvold. She will be forever remembered by her four children and their families; sons Randy (Linda), Glen (Lisa), Murray, and daughter Rene (Glen). Also by her precious Grandchildren; John, Alex, Jackson (Isabelle), Lindy, Sarah (Kirk), David (Velvette), Keri (Jeremy) and Lisa; and by precious Great-Grandchildren; Zachary, Oliver, Ashleigh and Kyler. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mom was born in Broderick, Saskatchewan on September 3, 1923 and from there the family moved to a farm close to Camrose, Alberta. She and Sandy were married June 1946 in Camrose. They moved several times before settling in Victoria in the 1950's. She was an incredibly gifted artist and we are thankful to have many pieces of her Rosemalling art by which to remember her. Her sparkling personality is reflected in these pieces. Her sewing, knitting and crochet work were always beautiful and perfect. She was a great cook, too, and even her famous Norwegian sandwiches displayed her artistic talent. She enjoyed traveling and was able to celebrate her 90th birthday in 2013 with a cruise to Alaska, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Her greatest gift to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren is that we know we were unconditionally and fiercely loved and cherished. Thank-you, Mom, you lived your life full of love and much laughter. We will have a celebration of her life on Saturday, May 17, 2014 between 1 and 4pm in The Garden Chapel at Royal Oak Burial Park, 4673 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC. Family and friends, please come in May and help our family celebrate her beautiful life.
