MANCHESTER - Helen Spanos Sanborn died Jan. 16, 2015 at her residence after a long illness. Helen was born April 18, 1926 in Manchester, a daughter of Banos Spanos and Hariclia (Carozi) Spanos and was a graduate of Manchester Central High School-Class of 1943 A. As a young woman, Helen started her career working for Hartford Fire Insurance Company as a secretary. She then moved on to Washington, D.C., to the U.S. Naval Department in the Bureau of Ships also as a secretary. Helen then returned to Manchester to work for R.F. Burroughs for a short time, then became a secretary for PSNH division manager. Helen's career then moved her to the Merchants Savings Bank for 16 years in the mortgage department. Helen's proudest business achievement was buying the Crown Colony Cottages at Rye Beach. As proprietor for 10 years, she loved the beach and the visitors. After retiring from the Crown Colony, Helen worked several years for Mothercare Stores as a salesperson, assistant manager and then manager in Manchester as well as in Newington. Helen was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 39 years, Earl P. Sanborn. Family includes one son, Earl P. Sanborn II; one daughter, Perry E. Sanborn; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Spanos; one brother, George B. Spanos; as well as many nieces and nephews. Helen was pre-deceased by siblings, Stergios Spanos, Margaret Spanos and John B. Spanos. . services: Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cate & Johnson Funeral Home, 573 Pine St., corner of Harrison Street in Manchester. A Trisagion Prayer Service will be offered at 6 p.m. in Cate & Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday at 11 a.m. in Cate & Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester.
