BROOKWOOD Helen Smith, age 81, of Brookwood, died March 20, 2007, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.Her husband, Jack Smith, her daughters, Alice Faye and Debbie, her brother, Melvin Jones, and her loving K-9 companion, Jake, preceded her in death.Survivors include daughters, Diane King of Brookwood, Ala., and Louise Martin (Neil) of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Mandy King of Riverside, Calif., Chris Wallace of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Traci Norris of Bessemer, Ala.; and great-grandchildren, Skylar, Ezzie, Blake and Austin.Mrs. Smith was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She never met a stranger. On any given day she could be found outside in her flowerbed tending to her rose garden. She loved cats and never left any animal hungry.Pallbearers will be Duane Green, Brian Grossman, Dwight Kizziah, Dewey Green, Bill Snider, and Phil Willingham.Honorary pallbearers are Donnie Wallace, special thanks to Suzanne Smith and other TSICU nurses, 6th Floor North nurses, and Hospice of West Alabama staff. We would also like to thank everyone for their many thoughts and prayers.
