Helen O'Dell Smith, 92, of Bush River Community of Newberry County, widow of Clifford T. Smith, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Franke Home of Mount Pleasant, S.C. Mrs. Smith was born July 1, 1910, in Liberty, a daughter of the late Thomas Ross and Daisy Boroughs O'Dell. She graduated from Winthrop College. She was a member of Bush River Baptist Church, Newberry Women's Club and Nosegay Garden Club. Mrs. Smith is survived by three daughters, Sylvia Smith Crook of Atlanta, Ga., Linda Smith Jones of Mount Pleasant and Mary Helen Smith Ragland of Piedmont; seven grandchildren, Charles Lee Crook of Greenville, Stacy Crook Moran of Alpharetta, Ga., Catherine Elizabeth Jones Smith of Greenville, Barbara Helen Jones Johnston of Birmingham, Ala., Edgar Eugene Jones III of Mount Pleasant, William Harrison Ragland of Greenville and Rebecca Jane Ragland of Greenville; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Helen O'Dell Smith will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Bush River Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Glenn Mosteller. Interment will be at the church cemetery.
