WALPOLE, N.H. -- Helen “Chickie” Miller , 77, died peacefully at home under the care of Hospice and surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 7, 2004. She was born in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 20, 1927. She attended several private schools, graduating from the Park School in Baltimore, Md. She continued her education at Bennington College. Both her parents, Clarence C. Cappel and Helen Ware Cappel, were noted musicians. Mrs. Miller turned to dance to express her artistic drive. She studied dance from a very young age and ended her formal study after several years with the Martha Graham Dance Company in New York City.She and her husband lived in Walpole for 50 years. In addition to raising her family of four children, she taught dance and operated a dance school for children from all over the area. She continued her love of performing through her creation of “Feathers the Clown.” As Feathers, she helped establish the Clown Company, which performed in area schools and the community for years. For many years, Mrs. Miller helped direct the annual musicals at Fall Mountain Regional High School and was also one of the founders of the Walpole Players and the Walpole Junior Players, both of which provided entertainment for the area at the Walpole Town Hall. These organizations fulfilled her dream of making theater available to all people.She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles D. Miller, two sons; Jeffrey, and his wife, Diane, of Walpole and Brian and his wife, Sharon, of South Acworth; two daughters, Diana and her husband, C.T. Pace, Jr., of Crozet, Va., and Allegra and her husband, Robert Rinkema, of Burlington, Vt; and eight grandchildren.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 10, at 1 p.m. in the Walpole Congregational Church.
