Helen McKenzie May 11, 1923 - May 22, 2013 Helen passed peacefully, surrounded by family. She was predeceased by her daughters, Patricia and Willa, son-in-law, Dick Button and grandson, Thomas DeJong. She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Bill; children: Chris (Dick), Mike (Toni), Kelly (Hans), Brent (Valerie), (Sylvie),13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.Helen came to Powell River from Saskatchewan with Bill in 1940. During the war she enjoyed working in the mill, sawing the immense spruce logs from the coastal forests. Her life focus was her family and she worked passionately to guide them all to reach their best potential. From her early childhood to her last days, Helen met life with grit, perseverance, independence and determination. She will be greatly missed. No service by her request. A family celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of BC would be gratefully appreciated.
