HELEN MARY NOLAN (nee McCORMACK) Passed away in peace at St. Michael's Hospital Palliative Care Unit (PCU) on October 7, 2009. Born August 16, 1914 in St. Joseph's NL, the 7th of 10 children. Helen married Bertram Nolan on August 8, 1942 in Toronto. They had five children: Anne, Elsie, Walter (Nancy), Kathy (Kim Garner), Marg (Pat Esaw); and five grandchildren: Anne, Stephanie, Jeffrey, Kathryn and Laura. Predeceased by husband Bert (1957), daughter Anne (1957) and her brothers and sisters. Survived by her sister Patricia, nieces, nephews and their families in Newfoundland, Boston, MA and throughout Canada. Blessed by a career she loved, Helen retired from teaching in 1979 and later obtained an Honors BA from York University. Special thanks to her RWTO/RTO friends, especially Peg; and to her wonderful neighbours of Terraview Heights who provided friendship and support for 54 years. The family wishes to acknowledge the love and care given to Helen by Drs. Louli, Brezden and Kendall; Scarborough Support Services (Shermin, Lyn, Hao Yong, Jing and Vasantha); Dusanka; Fran (VON); for spiritual care -- Mary and Teresa (Annunciation). We are forever indebted to SMH's PCU -- one and all. The family will receive friends at the Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Ave. E. on Friday, October 9 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral Mass to take place on Saturday, 10 a.m. at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 3 Combermere Drive. Burial to take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Arthritis Society or St. Michael's Hospital Foundation -- Palliative Care Unit.
