Passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus on Monday, November 26, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Cecil and Catherine Burns and sister of the late Jean Catherine Burns. Helen is survived by her loving brother John C. Burns (Judy) of Perth, Ontario and their two daughters, Barbara Helen Darragh (Kent) of Cleveland, Ohio and Pamela Marjorie Burns (John Connor) of Ottawa, Ontario; her two great-nephews, Jordan Darragh (Bliss) of Denver, Colorado and Patrick Darragh of New York, New York; a great-grandnephew, Caden Darragh of Denver, Colorado and a friend Gil Carriere. Helen served in Washington and overseas with the WRNS during World War II. She had a career for many years with External (Foreign) Affairs. She was an accomplished tennis, squash and badminton player and played golf at The Royal Ottawa Golf Club for many years. Helen enjoyed an affiliation with the theatre performing as singer, dancer and actress. She was a life member of the May Court Club of Ottawa and was an enthusiastic member of The Canadian Club of Ottawa. She had a great love of animals and supported the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind and the Ottawa Humane Society. Helen will be sadly missed by many dear friends, some lifelong. The funeral will be held on Friday, November 30 at 11 a.m. at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church, Mackay Street, New Edinburgh; the Reverend Canon Jim Beall officiating.
