SMITH Helen L. Smith, age 96, beloved wife of the late Chester B. Smith, died Friday, June 8, 2007, at the Masonic Home, Wallingford. Helen was born in Bridgeport, daughter of Alexander and Mary Solomon Lesiewicz and had lived in Trumbull 50 years, before moving to the Masonic Home. While still in her senior year of high school, she began studying afternoons at Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse with the class of 1935. Helen went on to be the head nurse for the medical unit at Sikorsky Aircraft, retired after many years of dedicated service. She had been a member of Sikorsky's Garden Club, winning numerous awards. Helen was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's of Stratford National Catholic Church, a parish were her parent's had been founding members. Survivors include her loving sister, Beatrice Frost of Wallingford, devoted nephew and nieces, Raynor Frost, Martha Kaechele, Alexandra Panuczak, Brenda Hachtman, Lois Palmer and Evelyn Gannon, she was predeceased by two sisters, Irene Teerlog and Isabelle Sobocinski. A funeral Mass will be celebrated, Monday, at 12:00 p.m.(noon) at St. Joseph's of Stratford National Catholic Church, 1300 Stratford Road, Lordship section of Stratford, with interment immediately following in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may greet the family at the church from 11 a.m. until Mass time. In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make contributions in Helen's memory to the 32nd.
