April 13, 2003 Helen C. Cummings, 93, of Syracuse , formerly of Schenectady, NY and Daytona Beach, FL died Sunday, April 13, 2003 at the Jewish Home in Syracuse, NY. She was born in Schenectady, NY, the daughter of the late Victor and Helena Ca-dieux. Mrs. Cummings was a Summa Cum Laude graduate of the State University of New York at Albany and was a teacher of English at Webster High School. She then taught business at Mt. Pleasant High School in Schenectady, NY for more than 25 years. Following her retirement, she continued to give to her community; she was involved in the right to life movement and continued to tutor children as long as she was able. She also sang light opera professionally, played bridge, was an avid reader and sports fan. Mrs. Cummings was a member of the American Association of University Women, Mohawk Golf Club and St. John the Evangelist Church. She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Edward J. Cummings Sr. of Syracuse; two sons, Edward Jr., of Niskayuna, NY and his wife Mary; Dr. Michael Cummings of Jamesville, NY and his wife Christine; seven wonderful grandchildren, Edward III, Michael Jr., John, Joseph, Patrick, Mary Beth and Kathleen Ann Cummings as well as four great-grandchildren, Brianna, Mary Jean, Michael Jr., and Joseph Jr. Cummings. Funeral Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Pirro & Sons Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pirro & Sons Funeral Home, 514 Turtle St., Syracuse, NY 13208, burial will be Wednesday 3 p.m. at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Schenectady, NY. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Clare's Hospital foundation, 600 McClellan Street, Schenectady, NY 12304 or to Holy Cross Church Building Fund, 4112 East Genesee Street, Dewitt, NY 13214.
