Carter, 91, Sarasota, formerly of Brooklyn, Roslyn, N.Y., died Nov. 16, 2007.A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Sarasota Bay Club on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, 10-11:30 a.m. Survivors include daughters Lynn LeTourneau and Bonnie Carter.Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, and son Bruce.Helen graduated from Brooklyn College in Physiology and Home Economics, Columbia University in Nutrition and Home Economics. Her MA Teachers College in Special Education enabled a career teaching blind and visually handicapped children.Helen was an active member of the Sarasota community. She valued the following organizations to commit her heartfelt time and energy. She was a member of the Congregation for Humanistic Judaism and the Sarasota-Manatee Jewish Federation.She was a true patron of the arts as a member of The Arts Council and volunteered at the Florida Studio Theatre, The Sarasota Opera and was a charter member of the Sarasota Ballet Ambassadors. She was active in the Community AIDS Network, PFLAG and ALSO Out Youth. Helen supported the Wellness Community, Women's American ORT, Women's Resource Center and Battered Women of Cape Verde Island.Her philosophy of life was, "take each day as it comes." She believed that all persons deserve equal opportunity.Memorial contributions may be sent to Community AIDS Network, 123 N.
