Helen A. Connell (nee Sherman), age 90, wife of the late Allan M. Connell, Jr., passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2012, in Underwood-Memorial Hospital, Woodbury. Helen has been a lifelong resident of the Pitman/Hurffville area and for the past 15 years was a resident at Pitman Manor. She was a Cook Manager employed by Washington Twp. Board of Education and worked at Bells School. She was a former 70-year member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Hurffville and is currently a member of Pitman United Methodist Church. She volunteered her time at Glassboro Nutrition Center and at the candy counter in Pitman Manor, loved playing cards and enjoyed doing ceramics. She was also a member of Hurffville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Predeceased by 2 brothers, Roger and John, and 2 sisters, Alice and Gladys, she is survived by her sons, Allan M. III (Dorothy), Roger (Nancy); her daughter, Ruth Russell (David); 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Marian Sherman and Marjorie Sherman; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 9, 2012, at 11:00 AM in the MATHIS FUNERAL HOME, 43 N. Delsea Drive, Glassboro, NJ, where friends may call after 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Hurffville. In lieu of flowers, donations to Pitman Manor Fellowship Fund, 535 N. Oak Ave., Pitman, NJ 08071 would be appreciated.
