Heather Lee Johnson, 50, a lifelong resident of Braintree, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Jan. 10, 2012, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. The longtime volunteer for the South Shore Humane Society worked tirelessly as an advocate for animal rights issues. Born in Quincy, Heather was the middle of three children born to the late John F. and Jessie M. (MacKay) Johnson. She worked for many years at the Weymouth D.P.W. as Principal Clerk in the Engineering Dept., and only recently took leave for health reasons. An artist, she was talented in watercolor painting and as a craftsman -creating quality jewelry to enjoy, share with family, and to support her charitable efforts, the most recent being the fight to find a cure for pancreatic cancer. Ever proud of her Scottish heritage, Heather enjoyed the bagpipes, and studied them for a time. She was also an ardent fan and season ticket holder of the Boston Bruins for many years. She was the loving sister of Valerie Johnson of Abington and Jack Johnson of Falmouth; cherished aunt of Justina, Caroline, Mary and Freddy Johnson. She is also survived by her dear friend and co-worker, Regina Haskins of Cohassett; and by her loyal pet companions, Anya, MacKay, Hans and Clarice. Her funeral was held Friday, Jan. 13, in Bethany Church, 18 Spear St., Quincy. Interment in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. Arrangements by the Hamel, Wickens & Troupe Funeral Home, 26 Adams St., Quincy Center. Donations in Heathers memory may be made to South Shore Humane Society, P.O. Box 850187, Braintree, MA 02185, or at www.southshorehumanesociety.org. Hamel Funeral Care www.hamelfuneralcare.com
