SHORTLIFFE, Hazel Elizabeth (Higgins) Passed away at Riverside Glen Long Term Care in Guelph, Ontario, on Monday, February 18, 2008 at the age of 95. She was born of Irish immigrants from Northern Ireland in Edmonton, Alberta, July 19, 1912, where she attended school winning many awards for excellence in History and English. She was a proud long time resident of Edmonton, and lived also in Ottawa and Victoria. Throughout her life she continued her interest in world travel, history, and politics. She thrived on interesting conversation about current affairs and books. She is pre-deceased by her loving husband, Newton (1981), her youngest child, Pamela (1948), her grandson, David Stelter (1987), and her sister, Maureen Unwin (1998). She is survived by her children, Glen Shortliffe (Sylvie Lauzon) in Ottawa, and Sally Stelter (Gilbert) in Guelph, her grandchildren Scott Shortliffe (Ottawa), Newton (Sharon) Shortliffe (Winnipeg), Gordon Stelter (Guelph) and Jamie (Janet) Stelter, and her two great granddaughters, Emma and Grace Stelter in Guelph. At her request there will be a private remembrance at a later date.
