BARNES Harvey Richard October 24, 1924 -January 31, 2008 The family announces the peaceful passing of Harvey Barnes on the 31st of January 2008, in White Rock. He is survived by his son Tavish, his son's mother Janice, sister Viola, nieces Monica, Mari (Bob), nephew Derek (Carol), and close friends Thomas Craig and Linda Harrison. Born the 24th of October 1924, in the small town of Barrhead Scotland, Harvey studied foreign languages and earned degrees at the University of Glasgow and the London School of Economics. Harvey emigrated to Canada in the early 1950's and while he spent most of his career teaching modern languages to secondary students in Vancouver, he also taught school in Montreal, pursued PhD studies at the University of Alberta, and was language consultant for the school district of Whitehorse. Harvey was an avid hiker, cross-country skier, Scottish Country dancer, and reader. He will be especially remembered for his devotion to his son and the many trips they made together to explore, hike and fish in the BC outdoors. Harvey was truly dedicated, supportive and caring - one could not ask for more in a father. He will be greatly missed.
