Harriett Sue Johnson passed away at home, Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at 2:30 p.m.A native of West Virginia, she spent two years at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and graduated from West Virginia University in 1942 with a Bachelor of Music degree. She belonged to Delta Gamma Sorority, glee club and numerous activities. She taught school in West Virginia, Maryland, Florida and Virginia.She was united in marriage to Lt. Charles W. Johnson, in the chapel at N.A.S. Banana River, Fla., in November 1945 and moved with her husband to various Navy duty station assignments and retirement locations before moving to Ponte Vedra Beach in 1990. They moved to Glenmoore Life Care Community, World of Golf Village, and St. Augustine, Fla., in 2001. She belonged to several bridge and golf groups.A life long Christian, she had belonged to Palms Presbyterian Church and now the Village Church. Mrs. Johnson was preceded by her husband C. W. Johnson, USN Retired.She is survived by two daughters, Jane Thomas, and Susan Weaver; four grandchildren, Christy Sue Crouch, J.W. Crouch, Sara Thomas and Eddie Thomas; sister-in-law Helen Stafford; and three nephews, J.C., Jeffrey and Tom Stafford.A memorial service was held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, in the Glenmoor, Crichton Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257 or Village Church, 4225 Pacetti Road, St. Augustine, FL 32092.Services under the care and direction of Quinn-Shalz, A Family Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach, FL.
