Helen M. (Maloney) Briggs, 85, of Glenville, passed away at her home on Friday evening, July 1, 2011, following an extended illness. Born in Camden, NY, on July 5, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Pauline (Palmer) Maloney, and her step-father, William Schwab. She was raised and educated in Scotia and a graduate of Scotia High School. She was a faithful communicant of St. Joseph's Church. She was employed by General Electric Co. in Schenectady for over 20 years until her retirement. Helen volunteered for over 30 years at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and had many interests, including reading, gardening and crossword puzzles. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed her relationships with her beloved cat, Emma, and her dog, Boomer. Married on May 11, 1946, Helen was predeceased by her husband, Clifford A. Briggs, on March 31, 1994. In addition to her father, mother, step-father and husband, she was also predeceased by two sons, Thomas C. and Timothy Briggs; a brother, Harold Maloney; a nephew, Jeff Palmer and a niece, Dawn Maloney. She is survived by her sons, Michael (Wendy) Briggs of Scotia, and David Briggs of Glenville; her brother, William Maloney of Tennessee; her sister, Nancy (Ralph) Palmer of Charlton; three grandsons, Thomas Briggs and James Briggs, both of Scotia, and Brandon James Earley of Ballston Spa; a sister-in-law, Jane Maloney of Schenectady; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. at The White Funeral Home, 264 N. Ballston Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, First St., Scotia. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niska-yuna. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308.
