Helen B. Houley, 86, passed away after a brief illness on January 4, 2012 at her daughter's home in Florida. She was a longtime resident of Scotia. Born on May 24, 1925 in Herkimer, Helen was the daughter of the late Theodore and Mary (Demczar) Bius. She was a graduate of Herkimer High School. Helen volunteered for various positions with the Scotia School District and became a lifetime member of the PTA. Helen and her late husband traveled extensively and visited all 50 states. In her retirement, she volunteered at the Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was also a member and treasurer of their Auxiliary for many years. Helen attended Christ the Savior Orthodox Church in Ballston Spa. Helen was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Donald D. Houley; brother, William Bius; and her twin, Steven "Pap" Bius; sisters, Anna Tymoczko, Olga Barna, Rosalia Choback, and Juliana Bius. She is survived by her children, Donna Houley (Charles MacDougal) of Schenectady, Elizabeth "Betty" (Taylor) Mason of Scotia, Donald D. Houley Jr. (Donna Young) of Binghamton, Deborah (Michael) Byrne of Rochester, and Kathleen (Thomas) Reif of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren, Charles (Julie) MacDougal, Kelly (Bradley) Lape, Amy (Andrew) Childs, Lisa Byrne, and Candice Houley; great- grandchildren, Chase Lape, Lily and Emma Childs. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marion Houle; many nieces, nephews, and friends. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Family and friends are invited to call prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
