DAVIS, HAZEL CARR - age 95, of Seymour, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 10:40 PM. She never worked a public job, but what she did was harder. Hazel stayed at home and raised three kids, as wife and greatest mother. She was a member of Knob Creek Baptist Church. Born on March 20, 1918 in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park near where the Sugarlands Visitor Center is now. Hazel and her family then moved to the Trundles Cross Roads area for a short time, then to their farm in Seymour. Hazel was the 7th child in the family of 8 girls and 1 boy. On February 22, 1939, Hazel married Carl Davis and they remained married for 66 years until his death on February 23, 2005. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Carl B. Davis; son, Dennis Ray Davis; parents, Elbert and Mattie Lawson Carr; sisters, Ola Carr Newman, Flora Carr Gibson, Emma Carr (infant), Edna Carr Webb, Pauline Carr Riggs, and Florence Carr Huskey, and her brother West Carr. Survivors: sons and daughters-in-law: Wayne Davis and wife Phyllis of Walland, Paul Davis and wife Wanda of Jonesborough; sister: Ethel Carr Mize; grandchildren: Elaine Taylor, Marilyn Coover, Donna Sainato, Angela (Nicky) Davis; great-grandchildren: Drew Davis, Billy Taylor, Nick Coover, and Jake Sainato; great great-granddaughter: Kallie Taylor; step great granddaughter: Carissa Sainato; several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Hazel's caregiver: Beth Brown. Funeral service 2:00 PM Saturday in Atchley's Seymour Chapel with Rev. W.A. Galyon officiating. Interment will follow in Knob Creek Cemetery.
