Memorial service for Grace Y. Miller, 54, South Pine Meadow Drive, DeBary, who died September 29, 2005, will be 6 p.m. Thursday, October 20, at New Hope Baptist Church, 2855 Lake Helen Osteen Rd., Deltona, with Pastor William Bradley officiating. Interment was October 7 in Newberry S.C. Mrs. Grace Evelyn Young Miller was born March 6, 1951, in Prosperity, S.C. Grace was the eighth child of James Richard Young and Princetta Wise Young (now deceased). She was educated in the Newberry County School System and graduated from Mid-Carolina High School in 1969. She earned a B.S. degree in social work from Winthrop College, Rock Hill, S.C., in 1973 and a MS degree in social work from University of South Carolina in 1976. Grace taught social work for several years at Columbia College then married Jackie R. Miller of Newberry, S.C., in July 1981. The couple then moved to Kansas City, Mo., while her husband was completing medical school. The couple moved to Jacksonville where they became a Navy family and Grace worked for the Duval County School System as a social worker. They were blessed with the birth of two sons, Jonathan R. Miller and Jared R. Miller. In August 1993 the Miller family relocated to DeBary. Grace was employed at the Volusia County School System until she retired in 1999 due to an illness. She was a devoted and dedicated Christian who was very active at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Sanford. During the years, she was appointed co-director of Children Youth Educational Board. She was a passionate and very active member of Volusia County's American Cancer Society. Grace served as president of Volusia County's Sisters Alive Breast Cancer Committee for many years. She was known for her civic and church seminars on breast cancer awareness in Volusia County. She touched the lives of many women, educating them on early breast cancer detection via American Cancer Society triple touch method. She left a legacy for other members of Sisters Alive Breast Cancer to follow and continue. She is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Dr. Jackie Robinson Miller; two sons, Jonathan Robinson Miller and Jared Richard Miller, DeBary; father, James Richard Young, Winnsboro, S.C.; four brothers, Willie F. Young, Newberry, S.C., Grover C. Young, Orange, Va., Charles R. Young, Jacksonville, and Jacob W. Young, Prosperity, S.C.; two sisters, Elizabeth Y. Small, Winnsboro, and Dorothy Y. Mitchell, Newberry; six brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; two stepsisters; a stepbrother; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family prefers memorial donations to Hospice of Volusia Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
