Gordon C. Anderson, 89, of Clemson, and former resident of Saco, Maine, died Jan. 1, 2002, at Southridge Living Center in Biddeford, Maine. He was born in Haverhill, Mass., son of Edward and Florence Campbell Anderson. He was a 1934 graduate of Northeastern University with a degree in mechanical engineering. Later he pursued advanced engineering studies at MIT and graduated from the University of North Carolina Executive Program in business administration and management. He joined Platt Saco Lowell, formerly Saco Lowell in Saco, Maine in 1937, where he held many engineering and management positions, retiring in 1977 as Senior Vice President of Engineering. He holds or co-holds 35 U.S. patents, many of which changed the nature of modern textile machinery. He was a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Textile Division. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star and a communicant of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Morris Anderson, of Clemson; and a stepson, Jonathan Mistos, of Saco, Maine. He was predeceased by his first wife, Annette Crowell. The memorial service will be held in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons, Central, at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2002. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Interment will be held at a later date in Haverhill, Mass.
