"The light of my life has been turned off on earth, but I know it shines brightly in heaven." -- loving husband, Albert AUGUSTA -- Gladys L. Libby, 78, was called to join her beloved on Dec. 7, 2011, at the MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta campus. After her courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Each day, since April of 1995, has truly been a "gift."Gladys Lillian Rodgers was born in Augusta on July 23, 1933, to the late Mabel McFarland-Grier. She attended Augusta schools.Gladys had been employed as a dispatcher for Pete's Taxi, North Taxi, B&F Taxi, W.T. Grant's and the Colonial Theatre. Her favorite "job" was being a loving mother and Nana. Our fondest memories are of Nana's seemingly tireless efforts to guide, listen, problem-solve and soothe her loved ones and many others' children. Nana continues to be our source of love and strength. She will be truly missed by her loving family and dear, dear, numerous friends.Gladys loved to play Beano, but enjoyed even more the weekly socializing with her established and new friends. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 2, in Augusta. Mother loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports, having lunches with her daughter and great-grandchildren at Farrington Elementary School, and attending their numerous dance recitals and musical performances. She also enjoyed her trips to Rob's "shop" with treats and hugs, Young's in Belfast for lobster and clams, the Cabbage Island Clambakes, mystery ride adventures, and HollywoodSlots. Nana loved to talk for hours on the phone and have face-to-face conversations with her great grandchildren, make cereal and special treat runs, and deliver her homemade macaroni and cheese and New England boiled dinners. Gladys was predeceased by her oldest son, Frederick N. Littlefield; great- grandbaby, Robby Drummond; and beloved youngest brother, Robert L. Rodgers. Nana will now be rejoined with her beloved family members in heaven.Gladys is survived by her devoted husband, Albert Libby, of East Winthrop; two daughters, Alice Drummond and Cynthia Berube, both of Augusta, and two sons, Ricky Littlefield of Connecticut and Robert T. Drummond, her "fifth" child of Augusta; grandchildren Robert T. Drummond, Renee Berube, Frederick M. Littlefield and Angela Donald; great-grandchildren Allyson, Cody, Grace and Ronan Drummond, Lucas and Cole Donald, Alexee Littlefield and Reese St. Pierre; two brothers, Kenneth Rodgers of South Carolina and Raymond "Bingo" Watts of New Hampshire; and two sisters, Dorothy "Dot" Burns of Weeks Mills and Marie Provincial of New Hampshire. A sincere and deep appreciation is extended to the MaineGeneral Medical Center staff members on the fourth floor of the Augusta campus for their exemplary, loving care given to our precious Gladys -- Mother, Nana, Hannah, dearest friend, and confidante -- and for their kindness and support given to the entire family.
