Gladys L. Cook, 81, of Rotterdam, died Thursday, Nov. 13, at her home, after a long illness. Born in Rensselaerville, she spent most of her life in the Schenectady area. She was the wife of the late Donald J. Cook, who passed away in July of 2001; they had been married for 57 years. Gladys worked in food service at Mohonasen High School for 25 years and for Price Copper as a food demonstrator for 15 years. She retired in 1997. She was a member of the Carmen Senior Citizens and the Rotterdam United Methodist Church. Gladys loved to read, garden, play cards with friends and above all, caring for children. She had a very special way with them and they loved her! Gladys is survived by her children, Phyllis (Lawrence ) Turmel of Sommerfield, FL, Michael (Emma) J. Cook, Donna (Donald) Buono and Barbara (James) Costanzo, all of Rotterdam; as well as four stepchildren, Larry and Earl Cook, Lela Spencer and Linda Burke; her siblings, Mary Willsey of So. Westerlo, Dan Lee of Greenville, John (Vivian) Lee of Medusa, NY, Ken (Charlene) Lee of So. Berne, Arlington (Dorothy) Lee of Westerlo, Ben (Shirley) Lee of Westerlo and Rita (Joel) VanKuren of Athens, NY. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and 25 step great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Frances Metcalf and Esther Porter. Funeral Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the DeLegge Funeral Home, Inc., 1346 Chrisler Avenue, Schenectady with the Rev. Judy Johnson-Siebold officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the funeral home on Monday an hour prior to the service beginning at 12 noon.
