Gladys E. Smith, 93, of Rockport, wife of the late Ernest G. Smith, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, June 18, 2014 in the Den Mar Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. Gladys was born in Rockport, MA on August 26, 1920, the daughter of the late William and Theora R. (Smith) Elwell. She graduated from Rockport High School with the Class of 1938. Gladys was employed by Sylvania in Ipswich for 17 years followed by several years working at Doris Roberts Gift Shop and also Rainbow Legend Jewelry Store on Bearskin Neck. Gladys was an avid sailor and golfer, belonging to the Sandy Bay Yacht Club and the Rockport Country Club. She spent at least 35 years golfing with her golfing buddy and good friend, Marjorie Curtis of Pigeon Cove. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Stambaugh of Rockport; her son, Roger Parsons and his wife Barbara of Ipswich; two grandchildren, Karl Muller and his wife Jennifer of VA, Roger Parsons Jr. and his wife Lynn of Rowley; six great grandchildren, Corey and William Parsons; Isabella, Rachel, Sophie and Gabriel Muller. She was predeceased by her husband Ernest; her sister, Muriel Damon and her brother, Roy Elwell. In keeping with her wishes, there are no visiting hours and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Her burial will be held privately.
