Gino Anthony Canale of Newport News, Va.Gino Anthony Canale, 69, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 19, 2002. A native of Binghamton, N.Y., he had been a Peninsula resident for 22 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Peninsula Italian American Lodge. He was director of Continuing Education at Broome Community College in Binghamton, N.Y., Thomas Nelson Community College and Norfolk State University. He retired in 1997. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Lorenza Canale. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Spelta Canale; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Degma, Rochester, N.Y. and Therese Figura, Tex.; three sons, Thomas Canale, Binghamton, N.Y., David Canale, Barton, N.Y. and John Cappellucci, Newport News, Va.; two grandchildren, Bradley and Andrew; and his aunt, Gina Tofani, Pa.; and his wife's mother, Rose Spelta. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 21 from 5 to 6 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Newport News, Va. with a Funeral Mass to follow at 6 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Charles Breindel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Binghamton, N.Y. At Gino's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of him to the Poor Clare Monastery Building Fund, 28 Harpursville Rd., Newport News, Va. 23601. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
