BENNINGTON - Gertrude J. "Gertie" Harrington, 78, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Bennington Health & Rehabilitation. Born in Bennington Feb. 5, 1935, she was the daughter of Olin and Ruth (Lane) Cross. She graduated from North Bennington High School. On May 21, 1955, she married Milton E. Harrington in Shaftsbury. Mr. Harrington died in 2009. Mrs. Harrington retired from Union Carbide Corp. in Bennington after employment for over 30 years. She was a member of Bennington Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed her daily "Coffee Club," fishing, baking, cooking, reading and puzzles. Survivors include five children, Deb Kennedy, Milt, both of Bennington, Eddie, Rick, both of Pownal, and Jake of Cambridge, N.Y.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two siblings, Elizabeth Center, Jack Cross, both of Bennington; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Harrington was predeceased by an infant grandson and four siblings, Shirley Paddock, Patricia, James and Scott Cross. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home where calling hours begin at 2 p.m. prior to the service officiated by the Rev. Robin Greene. Private burial will be in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
