Gertrude J. "Gertie" Harrington 1935-2013 Mrs. Gertrude J. "Gertie" Harrington, 78, widow of Milton E. Harrington, a resident of East Road, Bennington died Monday February 18, 2013 at Bennington Health & Rehabilitation surrounded by her loving family.Born in Bennington February 5, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Olin and Ruth (Lane) Cross. Gertie received her early education in the Shaftsbury schools and was a graduate of North Bennington High School. Gertie and Milt were married at the Shaftsbury Methodist Church on May 21, 1955. Milt died April 15, 2009.Gertie had been employed at Union Carbide Corporation in Bennington for over thirty years prior to her retirement.She was a member of the Bennington Senior Citizens Center and was a regular attendee at her daily "Coffee Club" gatherings. She enjoyed fishing, baking, cooking, reading and puzzles. Her favorite times were spent with her family and friends and feeding the birds while surveying her "kingdom" on the East Road. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Deb and Ken Kennedy of Bennington, Eddie Harrington and Angel Derouchie of Pownal, Milt Harrington of Bennington, Rick and Cathy Harrington of Pownal and Jake and Lisa Harrington of Cambridge, New York; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Center and a brother, Jack Cross, both of Bennington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gert was predeceased by an infant grandson and by four siblings, Patricia Cross, Shirley Paddock, James and Scott Cross. FUNERLA NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday, February 22, 2013 at 4 p.m. with Rev.
