PETERSON, Gerald (Gerry) Frederick January 16, 1949 - July 3, 2010 On July 3, 2010, at the age of 61, Gerry Peterson went home to be with his Lord. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Gerry touched in so many ways throughout his memorable life. Gerry's life might seem too short to some. But those whose lives he touched understand that Gerry lived his life to the fullest, bringing so much joy and happiness to family and friends. His inquisitive mind and unwavering Christian faith made him someone who truly cherished life and was an inspiration to others. Gerry was born on January 16, 1949, in Edmonton, Alberta to Waldemar and Ruth Peterson. Over the past 40 years, Gerry gave his life in ministry to the needs of others. His generosity of spirit was boundless and given freely to all. Gerry authored and published two books that portrayed his struggles and victories as a man born with cerebral palsy during a time when very few resources were available for person with disabilities. His life story was one of victory and triumph over what others might call a disability. To Gerry, his so-called "disability" was a gift; a unique opportunity to show others that his faith in God and his love for his family and friends gave special meaning and purpose to his life. Gerry leaves behind his beloved parents, Ruth and Wally Peterson; his two brothers, Dale (Trish) and Brian; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends whose lives he touched. Gerry was predeceased by his special friend and companion, Tami. Heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at the Easter Seals McQueen Residence that was home to Gerry for over 35 years. A celebration of Gerry's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at West Meadows Baptist Church, 9333-199 Street, Edmonton.
