Georgia Bell Lewis Harris1910-2012Georgia Bell Lewis Harriswas born in Furman Alabama on September 29, 1910. Mrs. Harris was raised in Furman and Snow Hill Alabama. She was the youngest child of thirteen children, born to Lucy B. Lewis and George Lewis. All throughout her childhood, Georgia enjoyed learning and experiencing new and innovative things. To satisfy her educational needs, Georgia attended Snow Hill Institute, which was founded in 1893.Georgia met and married James Harris Sr. They moved to Pensacola, Florida where they raised and nurtured nine children. Mrs. Harris was a hard worker. She was once employed at Dainty Delicatessen as a chef and she also worked at the San Carlos Hotel. Mrs. Harris was very active in the church and in her community. She attended Englewood Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the senior choir for many years. She enjoyed doing missionary work such as praying for others and helping when there was a need.Mrs. Harris was also an active member of the Star Lighters Missionary Club where she served as chaplain and advisor. Although, Georgia led and active and full life, she found time for her hobbies; her hobbies were gardening, singing, and poetry. Throughout her life, Georgia not only sacrificed and took care of her family; she also helped others by acting as a midwife in the community. She was always giving advice, helping others, and showing compassion to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren as well as neighbors and friends. Preceded her death was her husband James Harris Sr., sons, Curtis Lavelle Harris, and James Harris Jr., and daughter Joyce Harris Saulsberry. She leaves to cherish her memories, Four daughters, Gladys Wicker; Laura (Cleo) Manuel; Jean (Nelson) Saulsberry; Patric Ann Jones all of Pensacola, Florida. Two sons, William E. (Patricia) Harris of Pensacola, FL and Bruce (Debra) Harris of Deltona, Florida.She also leaves twenty grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren, nine great-great grand children, and one great-great-great grandchild, as well as a host of other loving relatives and friends who will truly miss her.Express your condolences in our guestbook at pnj.com/obits
